Thank You MossBack hunters! and "congratulations". In the year 2007 MossBack hunters purchased 1 million dollars worth of conservation permits and landowner tags in Utah. Money which will stay in the state and go straight to conservation projects such as chainings, reseedings, big game transplants, water improvements and controlled burns ect. So we "thank you" for putting your money on the mountain and making it a better state for all residents and nonresidents to hunt, thus allowing this state to become the best Big Game State in the West.

Hunter Requirements

  • Be in good physical shape.
  • Rifles: No semi-automatics, and should be sighted in for 2 1/2 inches at a hundred yards, capable of shooting 300 yards.
  • Muzzleloaders: One power scope or a Hollow scope with cross hairs, practice at 100 yards, and know how high to aim at 200 yards
  • Archery: Preferably compound bow - Average shot 30 to 40 yards.  Practice at long ranges and it will make you deadly at 40 yards!
  • Shoes and Clothing: Very quiet and warm, we prefer polar fleece, if you are archery hunting; flat crepe shoes are a must.
  • As hunters you will not be allowed hearing protection unless the ear devices enhance your hearing (we recommend the SportEAR). Most hearing enhancements help to amplify your hearing and then they shut the volume off when the gun goes off. The most critical time to hear instruction from your guide is the last 10 minutes before you shoot, if you cannot hear him it defeats the goal. We will do our part to find you a Trophy animal, help us by doing yours!
  • We recommend that you check out our Mulies Gone Wild series and our Bulls Gone Wild series to familiarize yourself with our hunting operation, the hours of scouting that goes into each hunt, the camps, the areas, and the caliber of trophy animals that we hunt.

Attention Hunters
It is against the law for a resident or non-resident hunter to hire a guide that does not have a permit from the Forest Service, BLM and State Lands. No compensation is allowed, not even gas or a meal. Your guide must have a $1 Million dollar Insurance policy and all of his permits. If you are a non-resident and your guide does not have a permit and your animal leaves the state it is a violation of the Lacy Act and is a federal offense. Please check out your guide with Fish and Game, Forest Service, and BLM and save yourself and guide a lot of grief.

The law (passed in 1964 but just now being enforced) is supposed to placed in next years Proclamation (2005) by the Forest Service and the BLM. Last year many Utah guides went to court and were prosecuted, fined, and lost their rights to guide. I place this warning here on my website to educate everyone about this law. If you have complaints about the fairness of this law, instead of sending your complaints to me (or bad-mouthing MossBack), please contact your local congressman or senator and work to get the law changed.

Attention Videographers and Cameramen
A new law also prohibits the selling of any video footage from Forest Service, BLM and State Lands. Anyone who produces a video to sell or is compensated for selling one second or more of video footage without a permit is breaking the law. Permits are required for every different National forest or BLM area you will be filming in. They will be watching any videos produced and handing out some heavy fines. You must obtain a film permit from Forest Service and the BLM. A $1 Million dollar insurance policy is required (which runs about $2,000 a year). This policy is nationwide for TV & video.

If you’d like a guaranteed permit in 2008, you will need to purchase a landowner tag or a conservation permit. These tags are being auctioned by non-profit organizations. I will personally go to the auctions and bid on the tags. You can be on the phone while I am there. These tags and permits go on sale Jan 1, 2008. We also guide on all limited entry units in Utah. You can apply for these permits through the Utah Division of Wildlife (1-877-592-5169 or www.wildlife.utah.gov) You can also contact them to get on their mailing list and be sent a proclamation and application.

These tags will go fast so call today. Serious inquires only please.
